Meet Dr. Ives
Dr. Don Ives, MD, DABVLM, RPVI, RVT, practices out of Fairbanks and Anchorage, Alaska. He specializes in venous insufficiency, vascular surgery, phlebology, varicose veins, and spider veins. As a vein doctor and a member of the American Academy of Family Practice, the Alaska Academy of Family Practice, and the American Venous and Lymphatic Society, Dr. Ives provides his patients with excellent care, helping them improve their quality of life.
Dr. Ives attended Westmont College before earning his medical degree from the University of North Carolina - School of Medicine, where he received the UNC - School of Medicine Dameron Award in recognition of his commitment to practicing primary care in underserved areas. After graduating from medical school, he completed his residency and an internship at Boise Family Practice Medical Center before continuing to complete a fellowship in Obstetrics, Pediatrics, and Rural Training.
Dr. Ives moved to Alaska in 1993 to work at the Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center. He has since been a Physician Sponsor for Warbelow’s Air Medevac Service as well as the Medical Director of the Tanana Valley Clinic Community Health Aide Training Program.
Although Dr. Ives was focused on family medicine initially, he decided to concentrate on helping those with vein disease when he realized the impact vein health had on patients’ overall well-being. As a result, he established his practice — Laser Vein Center of Alaska — in 2007. In 2019, he partnered with Center for Vein Restoration, resulting in one of Center for Vein Restoration’s first locations in the state.
His main goal is to see his patients’ health and quality of life improve following their vein treatment. “It gives me great pleasure to take care of people’s pain, to make their lives better, to make them healthier because they can exercise,” he says. “People will say, ‘My legs feel so much better, I have my life back.’ That, to me, is very gratifying.”
