Center for Vein Restoration Welcomes Dr. Vu!
CVR is pleased to welcome Tuan-Anh T. Vu, MD, as the lead physician in the Fair Oaks, Virginia, location of Center for Vein Restoration (CVR)
Dr. Vu is an experienced, board-certified emergency room physician who witnessed firsthand the pain and disability caused by chronic venous insufficiency (vein disease). After 21 years in the ER, Dr. Vu chose to specialize in vein disease treatment to improve the quality of life for patients suffering from chronic pain, restless legs, swelling, skin changes, ulcers, and other symptoms of this under-recognized disease.
Dr. Vu says that his role as a physician is to alleviate pain and educate patients about the progressive nature of vein disease. In doing so, he hopes that patients can spot the warning signs and can take care of themselves once treatment is done.
“I treat patients as an individual, not just a disease. Sometimes the cause of the pain is not from venous disease, and my goal is to help the patient get the proper care they need for a better quality of life.”
– Dr. Tuan-Anh T.

Dr. Vu appreciates CVR's ongoing training and medical education to keep physicians on the leading edge of treatment for vein disease. He cites CVR’s commitment to academic research and clinical excellence by using the most up-to-date modalities available in vein care today as to why he choose CVR.
What is Vein Disease?
Vein disease is a common disorder affecting the valves inside of the leg vein, the thin-walled veins. Approximately one in four Americans suffer from vein disease.
As the heart pumps blood to tissues throughout the body through thicker-walled arteries, veins return that blood to the heart. Tiny valves inside the veins help the veins work against gravity and circulate upward.
A buildup of fluids causes veins to stretch, twist, or bulge. When these valves become weakened or damaged due to genetics, advanced age, pregnancy, a sedentary lifestyle, etc., blood collects or flows backward (known as reflux). The sluggish blood flow can also increase one's risk of blood clots.
Signs and symptoms of vein disease include:
- Unsightly, uncomfortable varicose veins
- Pain and swelling of the legs and ankles
- Heavy, tired feeling legs
- Skin discoloration or scaling
- Ulcers or sores that don’t heal

“Better measures of physician language proficiency are important for quality of care. Studies have shown that language concordance between patients and providers results in improved health care quality and outcomes. Patients whose physicians speak their language have better patient satisfaction with care medication adherence, patient understanding of diagnoses and treatment... patient centeredness, and more health education.” 1
