Center for Vein Restoration in Opelika, AL

The Center for Vein Restoration in Opelika is located 107 N. 24th Street between First and Second Avenues. Our central location near the East Alabama Medical Center on Pepperell Parkway and local landmarks like Mrs. Story’s Dairy and Auburn University Regional Airport makes our office accessible for patients throughout the city.

Our top priority is serving our customers with compassion and expert care, offering numerous treatments to eliminate varicose veins and spider veins. Among treatments we provide are sclerotherapy, laser ablation, radiofrequency ablation, and ambulatory phlebectomy. These methods have proven safe and effective for the vast majority of varicose vein cases. We also offer newer innovations in vein care, such as VenaSeal, which uses a proprietary adhesive to close off damaged veins, and Varithena, a non-surgical procedure that injects a microfoam into the affected vein so the vein collapses and blood diverts to healthy veins.

We regularly show our commitment to our patients through community events — most recently, we participated in a “Girl’s Night Out” event that brought together vendors that serve women in the local community.

About Our Location in Opelika

The Center for Vein Restoration is a quick nine-mile drive from Auburn, home to Auburn University. Local attractions include the Museum of East Alabama, which contains more than 5,000 artifacts detailing the city’s 19th and 20th Century history. Of historical note is the Salem-Shotwell Covered Bridge. The bridge was first built in 1900, and later rebuilt after being destroyed by severe thunderstorms in 2005. It reopened in 2007.

Meet Dr. Aikens

Michael L. Aikens, MD, has 26 years experience and is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. A graduate of Boston University Medical School, Dr. Aikens completed an internship and residency at the Boston University Medical Center. His service at that institution earned him the J. Claude Bennett Award for Excellence in Research.

After moving to Alabama in 1995, Dr. Aikens began practicing privately in 2002 at East Alabama Cardiovascular & Associates as a managing partner. He joined the Center for Vein Restoration in 2018.

Dr. Aikens’s goal is to improve his patients’ lives by treating the symptoms of chronic venous disease, including leg pain, swelling, skin ulceration, and varicose and spider veins. His interest in phlebology began while he was a cardiology fellow at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.

After studying the endothelial cells (cells that line blood and lymphatic vessels), Dr. Aikens realized the essential role they play in the development of chronic venous disease. “What interests me most about venous disease is the opportunity I have to improve people’s health and their lives. I can help stop this chronic disease,” he says.

His professional affiliations include East Alabama Medical Center, Dadeville Community Hospital, Medical Association of Alabama, and the Association of Black Cardiologists.
