Commitment to patient care goes beyond physician credentials, however. Our entire team works together to provide our patients with a level of comfort and understanding.

Our Vein Clinic in Greenbelt, Maryland

Greenbelt, Maryland, is a suburb of Washington, D.C., in Prince George's County, Maryland. Its suburban feel, excellent diversity, easy access to the Beltway, and proximity to the nation’s capital make Greenbelt a highly sought-after region to live and work. Known for its origins as a planned community, Greenbelt boasts interior walkways and underpasses, a system of inner courtyards, and one of the first mall-type shopping centers in the United States.

Visitors to CVR’s vein center can step into nature at Greenbelt Park, a forested oasis managed by the National Park Service. For something a little more nostalgic, Old Greenbelt Theatre is a historic movie theater built between 1937 and 1938 in Roosevelt Center in the Greenbelt Historic District of Greenbelt, Maryland.

Because of its closeness to Washington, D.C., visitors to CVR’s North Bethesda / Rockville, Maryland, vein clinic can easily take in the Lincoln Memorial, the White House, and the National Mall.

CVR’s vein clinic is located on Greenway Center Drive, a short commute from numerous activities, eateries, and outdoor recreational areas, including the Greenbelt Dog Park (open from dawn to dusk). Getting to our clinic is easy by the Baltimore Washington Parkway from Greenbelt Park.

The easiest way to access our vein clinic is by heading south on the Baltimore Washington Parkway. When you see Eleanor Roosevelt High School on the left, take the Hanover Parkway exit, located just past the CVS on the right. Turn right onto Greenway Center Driver, and follow the road around, making a sharp left turn as the road curves. The three-story building on your right is our building, number 7300. Our vein center is directly opposite Willy K’s restaurant and the Holiday Inn Washington.

If starting your journey to CVR’s vein clinic at Greenbelt Park, head south on the Baltimore Washington Parkway. Take the exit for Riverdale Road. Turn left onto Riverdale Road. Continue forward for 2,000 feet and take a left onto Auburn Avenue. Auburn Avenue will be just past the slight curve to the right on Riverdale Road. Continue on Auburn Avenue and turn right onto Good Luck Road. Continue under the I-495 overpass. Take a left turn onto Hanover Parkway. Continue until you pass the Schrom Hills Recreation Center on your right. Take a left on Greenway Center Drive toward the Greenbelt Dog Park. Our clinic is located on the left side of the road.

He speaks English, Hindu, and Panjabi.

Meet Dr. Byrne

Rory C. Byrne, MD, earned his medical degree with honors from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He completed his internship at Queen’s University Hospitals program in Kingston, Ontario, and a residency at McGill University Hospitals. He is certified by the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine.

Dr. Byrne first became interested in vein disease care during his work in neonatal medicine, becoming fascinated by the intricacy of tiny veins. Seeing how devastating the symptoms of venous insufficiency were for patients, he decided to dedicate his career to vein care.

“Venous disease is not easy to treat, but when treated well, the results can be remarkable and life-changing. Seeing this dramatic improvement in patients that had formerly come to me with little hope is what interests me most about vein disease and spurs me on professionally.” Rory C. Byrne

Meet Dr. Lakhanpal

Sanjiv Lakhanpal, MD, FACS, is President & CEO of Center for Vein Restoration, the largest physician-led provider for the treatment of symptomatic venous insufficiency in the United States. As a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon, Dr. Lakhanpal witnessed first-hand the suffering and disability caused by undiagnosed or untreated chronic venous insufficiency (vein disease) and decided to do something about it. Focusing his vein treatment team’s energy on developing a vein center that specializes in diagnosing and treating venous insufficiency, he founded Center for Vein Restoration in 2007.

"The need to treat patients with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) was huge. There were so many patients who had almost crippling pain in their legs because of CVI, and they were just not being treated…We realized that this was a massively untreated disease throughout the country and the world. Research had to be done, and new technologies needed to be introduced." – Dr. Sanjiv Lakhanpal

Center for Vein Restoration has enjoyed rapid and vibrant growth and now serves patients in 23 states at more than 100 vein clinics nationwide. Under Dr. Lakhanpal's visionary leadership, CVR is charting a path forward, becoming the nationally and internationally recognized healthcare organization using cutting-edge, minimally invasive treatment options to treat venous disease in modern, comfortable outpatient vein clinics.

Our board-certified vascular surgeons offer a wide range of innovative treatment options for leg pain, swelling, cramping, itching, varicose veins, spider veins, restless leg syndrome, ulcers, and other symptoms of vascular disease.

Symptoms of vein problems

When the tiny valves in your leg veins fail to circulate blood back to the heart, it can be a sign of venous disease.

Vein disease can result in the following:

These symptoms are often the result of venous insufficiency and are unlikely to heal on their own. This common vein condition is progressive and will likely worsen without treatment.

Vein treatment options

Vein care providers at vein treatment clinics use the most advanced minimally invasive treatments available today. CVR’s modern outpatient treatment plans are far superior to the older vein-stripping methods used in the past.

Treatments include VenaSeal, a proprietary medical adhesive that safely closes off varicose veins, and ClariVein, a two-in-one approach that uses an ablation device to inject a sclerosing agent that closes the vein with a tiny rotating wire tip, which destroys the diseased vein.

At Center for Vein Restoration, we offer a wide variety of other treatment options, including:

Vein treatments take approximately an hour or less to complete, and patients can return to their normal routine immediately with few restrictions. No staples or stitches are required because a simple band-aid covers the tiny incisions. Our outpatient vein treatments require only local anesthetics. Recovery and symptom relief are fast, and there is little to no scarring.
