What is Deep Vein Thrombosis?

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is the clinical term for a blood clot that has formed deep in the vein. According to the American Heart Association, about 600,000 people in the United States are hospitalized each year for DVT. Typically, DVT occurs in the legs, though it may occur anywhere in the body. Symptoms of DVT can be similar to chronic venous insufficiency and include:

  • Varicose Veins
  • Swelling in your leg
  • Pain in your calf that can feel like cramping
  • Red or discolored skin on the leg
  • A feeling of warmth in the affected leg

An ultrasounds needs to be performed to rule out DVT or confirm the diagnosis. So, if your experiencing the symptoms above, schedule an appointment with CVR today.
