Varithena

Varithena is a minimally-invasive, non-surgical procedure used to treat a variety of different types of varicose veins. During this procedure, the doctor uses a catheter or a direct injection to administer a small amount of microfoam into affected veins. The vein then collapses and blood is redirected to healthier vessels nearby.

When is Varithena used?

Varithena can be used to treat many different types of varicose veins. Veins both above and below the knee can be treated using this method, and it's appropriate for veins with a range of diameters, from small to large. Twisted veins and veins that have been treated unsuccessfully with other methods may also respond to Varithena. However, Varithena isn't appropriate for every varicose vein. A qualified Center for Vein doctor can help you decide if Varithena is right for you.

What kind of results are achieved?

When performed by an experienced vein specialist, Varithena can successfully resolve many cases of varicose veins. In addition to improving the appearance of varicose veins, Varithena also relieves associated symptoms, including itching, throbbing, swelling, aching, and heaviness. Mild bruising and pain may occur after treatment with Varithena, but most patients report that these side effects fade quickly.

What should I do after my Varithena treatment to ensure vein health?

Even after treating your varicose veins with Varithena, you're still at risk of developing new varicose veins in the future. To prevent the development of new varicose veins in your legs, maintain a healthy weight and be sure to exercise on a regular basis. Try not to spend extended periods of time sitting in one position or standing still, as this can cause blood to pool in the veins in your legs. If you notice any symptoms of new varicose veins, contact your CVR doctor to discuss your treatment options.
