Are painful, unsightly varicose veins a major source of worry for you as the summer season approaches? Those bulging, twisting lines that frequently appear on the lower legs can cause significant embarrassment, particularly with shorts season right around the corner. This year, don’t dread summer. Instead, use this time to prepare for the season with a vein treatment that will eliminate those ugly veins and their painful symptoms. At Center for Vein Restoration, we are ready to help you find the procedure that will get you vein-free before the warm weather rolls in.

Spider Veins: A Cosmetic Concern

Spider veins are usually small, superficial red and blue lines that appear on the surface of the skin. Although they are not terribly large, they often appear in a network that can become quite unsightly – especially if it shows up on a visible area like the calf or lower thigh. If spider veins are making you cringe at the idea of shorts weather, give them the boot with an injectable treatment known as sclerotherapy.

Sclerotherapy involves injections of a special solution directly into spider veins that seals the visible veins closed. The collapsed veins are reabsorbed by the body, giving you a smoother, clearer look to your legs. Sclerotherapy takes just a few minutes to complete and doesn’t require any type of anesthesia. The results can be seen right away and continue to improve in the days and weeks following the procedure.

Varicose Veins: Painful and Unsightly

Varicose veins look like spider veins on steroids. These vessels swell and protrude above the surface of the skin, resembling flesh colored ropes that can put a big damper on your summer look. In addition, varicose veins can become painful, resulting in aching and swelling that may hamper many of your favorite summer activities.

We stop varicose veins in their tracks with state-of-the-art treatments like endovenous laser treatment (EVLT) and VNUS Closure. During these treatments, a narrow fiber is inserted into the swollen vessel, which delivers laser or radiofrequency energy into the vein. The energy heats the vein from the inside, sealing the vein closed so it collapses. The vein is reabsorbed and blood is rerouted to healthy veins nearby.

Both VNUS Closure and EVLT are performed in our office on an outpatient basis, usually under local anesthetic. The incisions used to insert the fibers are too small to require any suturing and usually heal with little or no visible scarring. The procedure itself is relatively comfortable and patients typically return to their daily activities as soon as treatment is over.

Getting Summer Ready

While all of our vein treatments are minimally-invasive and relatively quick to complete, the results of the procedures may take a bit of time to become evident. The veins will disappear from view gradually as they are reabsorbed by the body and blood is rerouted. During the healing process, patients are advised to avoid direct sun exposure to the treatment area to prevent skin discoloration.

Because results of vein procedures can take a bit of time, patients that want to ensure they are completely vein-free by summer should schedule their vein treatments as soon as possible. With a few weeks of lead time, you can rest assured you will be ready to don those shorts with confidence when the season officially arrives.

Don’t dread summer because of spider or varicose veins. Treat them instead with a minimally-invasive procedure designed just for you. To learn more, contact Center for Vein Restoration.
