Fall in the Northeast cannot be beat, from the glorious foliage to the plethora of activities to help you get in the mood for the season. Just a few miles from Wayne, in the bustling city of Philadelphia, there are plenty of ways to celebrate fall and get ready for the upcoming holidays. Whether you are looking for a way to get active in the crisp autumn air or enjoy a traditional autumn festival, the staff at Center for Vein Restoration has plenty of seasonal options for you to choose from.
One of the best locations to get your fill of the brilliant autumn foliage is at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square. Just a short drive east from both Wayne and Philadelphia, these gardens feature a colorful display of foliage aptly titled “Autumn’s Colors.” In addition, the gardens are home to the annual Chrysanthemum Festival, boasting a wide array of exquisitely trained mums for your viewing pleasure. Autumn’s Colors and the Chrysanthemum Festival both run through November 20.
Apple picking is a popular fall sport in this part of the country and there is no better place to get your fill than at the Apple Festival at Peddler’s Village. Located north of Philadelphia in Buck County, this weekend festival features arts and crafts, live music and pie-eating contests in addition to apple picking. Enjoy every apple treat you can imagine as you collect your own apples to take home, from apple fritters to apple cider. The festival will be held November 5-6 this year.
Hear stories from artists and everyday people at the one-of-a-kind First Person Arts Festival in Philadelphia. This unique festival, which runs November 7-9, celebrates people through short documentaries, author readings and live performances. In addition, guests can enjoy art exhibitions and workshops with the festival artists. The festival empowers the storyteller hiding in each individual by teaching how each person can express themselves in a unique and creative way. Headliners at this year’s festival include playwright Ntozake Shange and comedian Dave Hill.
Outdoor ice skating is a popular winter pastime for North Easterners and Philadelphia boasts one of the best outdoor skating rinks at Dilworth Park. This rink is slated to open November 11, giving residents and visitors the chance to skate beneath the pristine Philadelphia skyline. The rink welcomes skaters of all ages and skill levels and features classes for those that want to learn the sport or hone their abilities.
