Dr. Samuel’s path to becoming a renowned vein specialist is as unique as it is inspiring.
For over three decades, he built a successful career as a general surgeon, spending long hours in the operating room performing complex procedures. However, the physical demands of his profession took a toll on his legs. Spending 12 to 14 hours a day on his feet led him to develop significant vein issues, including pain, swelling, and heaviness in his legs—symptoms of venous insufficiency that many of his patients experience.
His introduction to modern vein care was unexpected. While in a doctor’s lounge between surgeries, he struck up a conversation with a Medtronic representative (Medtronic is a healthcare technology company). Out of curiosity, he asked if there was anything new in vein treatment, expecting to hear about traditional vein stripping, which was the only treatment option he was familiar with at the time.
To his surprise, the rep laughed and said, ‘Everything is new.’ That conversation changed the trajectory of his career.
