Varicose veins are unsightly and sometimes they are even physically painful. You would love to get rid of those bulging vessels, but is there even a way to do that? In the past, the only solution was to undergo a surgical procedure known as vein stripping. The procedure took place in a hospital and involved a significant amount of discomfort and recovery time afterward.

Today, vein stripping is mostly a thing of the past, thanks to much less invasive procedures that can be performed in your doctor’s office in a fraction of the time. At Center for Vein Restoration, we offer a number of minimally-invasive options to eliminate varicose veins and their uncomfortable symptoms completely!

Varicose Vein Treatment Options

There are a number of different ways we can effectively eliminate varicose veins today:

Venefit

Also known as VNUS Closure, this procedure uses radiofrequency energy to treat visible veins. The RF energy is delivered directly into the affected vein using a narrow fiber. The fiber only requires a small puncture mark in the skin to insert it into the vessel, which means little discomfort and no scarring afterward.

Once the fiber is in place, the RF energy is placed into the vessel, heating it so the vein seals itself closed. Once sealed, the vein collapses and is eliminated by the body over time. The procedure can be performed using local anesthetic and usually takes less than 30 minutes to complete. Patients return to regular activities the same day or day after treatment.

EVLT

Endovenous laser treatment or EVLT also treats the affected vein from the inside out, using a small fiber inserted through the skin and into the vein. However, with this treatment, laser energy is delivered into the vessel. Like RF energy, the laser heats the interior of the vessel, causing it to seal closed. The treated vessel can be naturally eliminated by the body over time.

EVLT is also performed using local anesthetic and takes just a few minutes to complete. The tiny incisions do not leave much visible scarring and the treated vessel completely disappears over time. Patients often return to activities immediately following treatment, although some will wait until the next day to get back in action.

Ambulatory Phlebectomy

Extremely large, bulging varicose veins are often best treated by a minimally-invasive procedure known as ambulatory phlebectomy or “hook” therapy. This procedure actually removes the vein from the leg, but in small sections. Tiny incisions are made along the length of the vein and a small hook is used to remove the vessel.

Ambulatory phlebectomy is performed using local anesthetic so the patient is completely comfortable during the procedure. Incisions used to remove the vessel are too small to require sutures and do not leave any significant scarring afterward. Our patients typically return to their daily routine the day after treatment.

All of these procedures are performed right in our office at Center for Vein Restoration. In many cases, patients are advised to wear compression stockings for a number of days after treatment to encourage healthy blood flow in the treatment area. Other than that simple instruction, there is very little follow-up after a vein procedure. In many cases, only a single treatment session is needed to achieve full results.
