Dr. Kim’s Credentials

Board-certified in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery, Dr. Kim is fellowship-trained in Vascular Surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Newark, New Jersey. She completed her residency in General Surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York, after earning her medical degree at the New York Medical College, Valhalla, New York.

More About Dr. Kim

After years of performing vascular surgery, Dr. Kim found her passion in treating damaged veins. Because she witnessed firsthand how underrecognized and undertreated vein disease is, she devoted herself exclusively to vein care.

Dr. Kim is well-versed in the most advanced technology and minimally invasive treatment techniques to address varicose veins, leg pain, swelling, leg ulcers, and other symptoms of vein disease. She has performed thousands of vein procedures, greatly improving her patients' quality of life.

Vein Disease is Underdiagnosed and Undertreated

Dr. Kim is not alone in her observation that many primary care physicians and other healthcare professionals do not recognize the signs and symptoms of vein disease. According to the US National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health, Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI), also known as vein disease, “requires early diagnosis as well as an evaluation of the associated risk factors; also, patients need to understand the disease and its treatment… Importantly, the physician should correctly evaluate the disease and decide the best option for the patient.”1

Chronic venous insufficiency occurs when tiny valves in leg veins become weak or damaged and don’t allow blood to flow back up to the heart. Known as reflux, this causes blood to pool in the legs, leading to leg pain and swelling—and is frequently associated with varicose veins and spider veins.

The National Institutes of Health calls vein disease “a potentially severe pathology that has been underdiagnosed and undertreated for a long time and requires patience from the patient as well as care from the physician.” 1

It’s Dr. Kim’s patience, persistence, and empathy for her patients that make her well-suited as a vein health professional.

“I realize how important it is to hold my patient’s hand and take my time to make sure that they understand the process every step of the way. I empathize with my patients and treat them like my own family.” - Dr. Soohyun Kim

Dr. Kim’s Philosophy of Patient Care

Building a trusting relationship with patients is paramount for Dr. Kim. She imagines how she wants her elderly parents to be cared for by their healthcare providers. She then applies that level of empathy to her patients.
