At Center for Vein Restoration, we mourn the passing and celebrate the extraordinary life of Dr. Shekeeb Sufian, MD, FACS. He was a pioneering physician, teacher, and humanitarian whose vision helped shape the foundation of Center for Vein Restoration (CVR) and the future of vein care itself.

“To speak only of his achievements would be to miss the essence of the man. Dr. Sufian embodied the highest ideals of ethics, morality, and discipline. His priorities were always beautifully ordered—his patients first, his beloved wife Adi next, then science, and finally his own health and self-discipline.” Sanjiv Lakhanpal, MD, FACS, Founder and CEO, Center for Vein Restoration

A Life Dedicated to Healing and Discovery

Born and educated in Ethiopia, Dr. Sufian stood out early for his intellect, discipline, and compassion. His pursuit of knowledge led him to the American University of Beirut, where he deepened both his medical training and his understanding of humanity. He later came to the United States, where he completed advanced surgical and vascular training, and where his lifelong passion for the venous system would take root.

At a time when vein disease was often overlooked, Dr. Sufian was among the rare physicians who recognized its significance. He devoted his career to studying, teaching, and improving care for patients living with chronic venous insufficiency, varicose veins, and other vascular disorders. His pioneering research became instrumental in developing the high standards of training and clinical excellence that define CVR today.

As the first chairman of CVR’s clinical studies, Dr. Sufian set the tone for a culture of integrity, precision, and relentless curiosity. He believed data should tell the truth, and he lived by that principle. Every figure, every observation, every study he touched reflected his commitment to accuracy and his deep respect for science in the service of patient well-being.

A Teacher, Mentor, and Friend

Beyond his remarkable professional achievements, those who knew Dr. Sufian remember him most for his generosity of spirit. He was a natural teacher, always patient, always kind, and always seeking to share knowledge rather than display it. Whether explaining the nuances of venous ultrasound to a colleague or discussing philosophy over coffee, he elevated every conversation.

He was, in every sense, a man of balance. His priorities were clear: first, his patients; then, his family; then, the pursuit of science; and finally, his own health and discipline. Those who worked alongside him often remarked on his integrity, humility, and warmth—a rare combination in medicine and in life.

“What began as a six-month favor became a two-decade legacy of education, mentorship, and friendship that transformed not just an organization, but the lives of all of us who worked with him.” — Dr. Sanjiv Lakhanpal

Dr. Sufian joined CVR nearly two decades ago, initially agreeing to assist for just six months. What began as a favor soon became a lifelong partnership. His wisdom and mentorship helped guide CVR through its earliest stages of growth, shaping a generation of physicians who carry his lessons forward each day.

A Legacy That Lives On

To his colleagues, Dr. Sufian was more than a physician; he was a philosopher, a mentor, and a friend. To his patients, he was a source of comfort and trust. To his family, including his beloved wife, Adi, he was a devoted husband and guiding light. His life embodied the values that continue to define CVR: integrity, compassion, excellence, and service.

Dr. Sufian’s influence is woven into every aspect of our organization, from our training programs to our patient care philosophy. The physicians and staff he mentored continue his mission: to restore not only healthy veins, but also confidence, comfort, and quality of life.

“In every sense, Dr. Shekeeb Sufian was the epitome of what a man, a friend, a physician, and a scientist should be. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled—but his example leaves a legacy that will continue to guide all of us who had the privilege of knowing him.” — Dr. Sanjiv Lakhanpal

While his passing leaves an emptiness that cannot be filled, his example endures. Every patient treated, every study conducted, every lesson taught in his name is a continuation of the legacy he built.

In Gratitude

Center for Vein Restoration extends our deepest condolences to Dr. Sufian’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. We are forever grateful for the decades of leadership, kindness, and knowledge he shared with us.

May his memory continue to inspire us to live with integrity, to lead with compassion, and to serve with purpose.

Rest in peace, Dr. Shekeeb Sufian. Your legacy lives on in every life you touched.
