At Center for Vein Restoration (CVR), outstanding patient care starts with outstanding physicians. That is why we are proud to welcome Aslan Amirian, MD, a fellowship-trained vein specialist and internal medicine physician, to CVR's vein clinics in Alpharetta, Georgia, and Canton, Georgia.
Dr. Amirian brings a distinctly whole-patient perspective to the diagnosis and treatment of vein disease. His foundation in internal medicine trained him to look beyond a single finding and consider the full picture of what a patient is experiencing. That instinct, combined with advanced fellowship training at CVR, shapes a clinical approach that is thorough, evidence-based, and highly personalized.
For patients in the greater Atlanta area who have been living with leg heaviness, swelling, varicose veins, or chronic discomfort they have long written off as a normal part of aging (hint: it’s not), Dr. Amirian's arrival is welcome news.

Dr. Amirian's path to vein medicine grew out of a gap he kept encountering in clinical practice. During his internal medicine residency and internship at UPMC Harrisburg, and in his subsequent role as an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he regularly saw patients whose leg heaviness, swelling, and cramping were attributed to aging, long hours on their feet, or the demands of daily life.
"Vein disease is an epidemic in this country. More than 25 percent of the population has it, and many people don't know about it. In internal medicine, I saw patients with venous insufficiency and lymphedema, and we didn't have the tools to address them. We weren't being taught about it." — Dr. Aslan Amirian
That recognition brought him to a turning point.
At a medical conference, he learned about the prestigious fellowship in Venous and Lymphatic Medicine at Center for Vein Restoration, one of only four such programs in the United States, and one of the oldest and most established in the field. He pursued it.
"The CVR fellowship is one of the most robust programs in the country for this specialty. You rotate with multiple attending physicians, learn their techniques, and observe how they approach each patient. Then you develop your own method based on everything you've learned. It's exceptional training." — Dr. Aslan Amirian
After completing his fellowship, Dr. Amirian now leads CVR's Alpharetta and Canton, GA, clinics, where he applies that training to patients across the greater Atlanta area.
If there is a single principle that defines how Dr. Amirian practices medicine, it is this: the patient is not the ultrasound findings.
He was drawn to CVR in part because of the central role that distinction plays in the CVR culture.
Where some practices base treatment decisions on imaging findings, at CVR, Dr. Amirian focuses on the individual in front of him.
"The focus at CVR is always on treating the patient. Some providers treat what they see on the ultrasound. Here, the philosophy is that if the patient doesn't have the symptoms, you don't treat just because something is visible on imaging. It's about the patient as a person, their symptoms, and their daily life." — Dr. Aslan Amirian
That whole-patient orientation is where his internal medicine background becomes a genuine clinical advantage. He is trained to consider multiple contributing causes for a set of symptoms, to ask what else might be going on, and to be honest with patients about what vein treatment will and will not resolve.
One case from his fellowship captures this approach well:
A patient came in with significant leg symptoms, and while vein insufficiency was present on imaging, Dr. Amirian recognized features that pointed to something more serious:
He told the patient, " If I treat the veins, maybe 20 to 30 percent of your symptoms will improve. But I believe the majority of what you are experiencing is heart failure, and you need to see a cardiologist. Had you ever seen a cardiologist before?"
She had not. It was a finding that may well have changed her health trajectory.
That kind of complete evaluation, looking beyond his subspecialty to consider the full picture of a patient's health, reflects the internist in him. Before any procedure begins, he also establishes clear expectations with patients, explaining what percentage of their symptoms a given treatment is likely to address and tracking that specific outcome at every follow-up visit.
Vein procedures at CVR are minimally invasive outpatient treatments performed under local anesthetic, with patients awake throughout. That means patient comfort is about more than just technique.
Before a procedure, Dr. Amirian walks patients through every step they will experience. He explains the process in full detail, answers every question, and makes sure patients understand that most treatments take 20 to 30 minutes, require no general anesthesia, and involve no meaningful downtime. Patients can drive themselves home.
During the procedure itself, that communication continues:
"I explain every step as I do it. I tell patients: ‘Right now, I am going to place a small needle here and give you a little numbing medication, etc.’ Nothing comes as a surprise. I also make sure the environment feels relaxed, with music, conversation, and something to keep them at ease. Patients are awake, so that connection really matters." — Dr. Aslan Amirian
Dr. Amirian evaluates and treats a full range of venous and lymphatic conditions, including:
Many patients are surprised to learn that symptoms such as end-of-day heaviness, swelling, and leg cramps are not simply the natural result of aging or of being on their feet all day. They are often signs of treatable venous disease.

Q: What vein conditions does Dr. Amirian treat, and do I need a referral?
A: Dr. Amirian treats chronic venous insufficiency, varicose and spider veins, leg swelling and edema, lymphedema, leg heaviness and fatigue, restless legs, and nighttime cramping, among other venous and lymphatic conditions.
No referral is needed to schedule a consultation. If your condition meets medical necessity criteria, CVR's team can also help guide you through the insurance process.
Q: I have been living with leg symptoms for years and assumed it was just aging. Is it worth getting evaluated?
A: Absolutely, and the sooner, the better! Many patients carry leg heaviness, swelling, cramping, or visible veins for years before learning that the underlying cause is treatable venous disease. Dr. Amirian's message is clear: if you knew how simple and essentially pain-free modern vein treatment is, you would not have waited.
Early evaluation also matters because advanced venous disease can lead to complications that may persist even after the underlying condition has been addressed.
Q: What should I expect at my first appointment with Dr. Amirian?
A: Your first visit is a consultation, not a commitment to treatment. Dr. Amirian will listen carefully to your main symptoms, review your health history, and perform a thorough evaluation that typically includes a diagnostic ultrasound to assess blood flow and identify the root cause of your discomfort.
He will set clear, realistic expectations about what treatment can address and what improvement you can reasonably expect to see. You will leave with answers.
