Kim Kardashian recently gave birth to a healthy baby girl. But as reported during her pregnancy, there were concerns with her habit of wearing too tight shoes … and could this lead to varicose and spider veins? Dr. Jeffrey Alpern, D.O., from Center for Vein Restoration will discuss the issue on NBC’s Arizona Midday on Wednesday, November 6, 2013.
As Dr. Alpern explains, “Varicose and spider veins commence in your twenties to thirties, sometimes earlier and they never improve. Once a vein starts to malfunction, not pumping the blood upwards toward the heart, blood will start to pool and they will never function properly again unless treated by a qualified doctor.”
Dr. Kersten, a Board Certified Phlebologist and OB/GYN practiced only Obstetrics for nearly 26 years. Now he devotes his time exclusively to the treatment of varicose veins and venous insufficiency.
“Many women first develop varicose veins or spider veins– or find that they get worse – during pregnancy,” Dr. Kersten says. “I became passionate about treating varicose veins when I saw them in my patients during their pregnancy. Many women don’t realize that they don’t have to suffer with varicose or spider veins.”
Kardashian’s high heel wearing was first reported in the National Enquirer and quoted Dr. Arthur Wisot, a noted Los Angeles obstetrician who had not treated Kardashian whose opinion agrees with Drs. Alpern and Kersten.
“High heels are not a good idea during pregnancy because your center of gravity shifts and you lose your sense of balance,” Wisot stated in the article. “And, improper footwear can also lead to aching, enlarged spider veins.”
