Dr. Rutazaana earned his medical degree at Makerere University in Uganda. He then worked as a medical officer at International Hospital Kampala, where he saw patients in clinic, admitted them to the hospital and performed procedures.
He completed his internal medicine residency through the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. He earned the highest in-service exam score in his program in both his first and third years.
From 2018 to 2025, he worked as a hospitalist at Memorial Hermann Cypress and CHI Health Good Samaritan, managing patients with several health conditions at once. That experience shapes how he approaches vein care. Vein disease rarely exists on its own, so Dr. Rutazaana considers a patient’s overall health before recommending treatment.
He completed his fellowship in CVR’s ABVLM-accredited Venous and Lymphatic Medicine program under Dr. Peter J. Pappas. There he trained in the full range of minimally invasive outpatient vein treatments.
