MD
A board-certified surgeon and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons with more than two decades of dedicated vein care experience, Dr. Gilster brings a whole-patient philosophy and deep anatomical expertise to the minimally invasive treatment of venous disease. He has performed tens of thousands of procedures and is among the most experienced vein specialists in the Portland, OR, area.
“My approach is to treat the whole person, not just the disease. I take time to explain what’s happening anatomically and why, so patients understand their condition and feel confident in every step of their care.”

Dr. Gilster has devoted his practice entirely to venous disease, building one of the most experienced vein practices in the Pacific Northwest. He describes himself as 'a big anatomy guy' who takes time during every visit to explain what is happening and why, breaking complex cases into smaller procedures and guiding patients through every step.
Whole-Patient Approach: Dr. Gilster does not treat veins in isolation. He listens to understand what each patient wants out of treatment and what is going on in their life, building a care plan around the person rather than the finding.
Education First: He believes patients educated about their disease make better decisions about their care. He invests time in explaining what is happening anatomically, why it matters, and how treatment will improve their daily life.
Confidence Through Experience: With tens of thousands of procedures performed, Dr. Gilster reassures anxious patients not with platitudes but honest experience.
