Dr. Peter J. Pappas is a board certified General and Vascular Surgeon who graduated from UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in 1987. Dr. Pappas completed his General Surgery Residency at Cooper Hospital University Medical Center, a Robert Wood Johnson affiliate, in 1993.  He subsequently his Vascular Surgery Fellowship at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School.

More About Dr. Pappas

After Dr. Pappas completed his Vascular Surgery Fellowship, he remained at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) as a faculty member for the next 15 years. Over that time period, Dr. Pappas rose through the ranks and performed many administrative and clinical roles obtaining the rank of full Professor in the Department of Surgery and Chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery, Medical Director of the Non-invasive Vascular Laboratory and Program Director of both the Vascular and General Surgery Residency training programs. He left NJMS in 2010 to become Chairman of the Department of Surgery at The Brooklyn Hospital Center in Fort Greene Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Pappas has been a member or officer of numerous Vascular and General Surgery Societies including President of the Vascular Society of New Jersey, The American Venous Forum and The American Venous Forum Foundation. He is nationally recognized for his basic science and clinical research activities in venous disease. A distinguished Reviewer for the Journal of Vascular Surgery, Dr. Pappas also has 66 Peer Reviewed Publications and 30 book chapters. As a result of his 23 academic years in Vascular Surgery, Pappas obtained a five year NIH grant to investigate the Pathophysiology of Venous Ulceration. He was also the first recipient of the JOBST Research Fellowship in Venous and Lymphatic Disease of the American Venous Forum Foundation.

Dr. Pappas is an active contributor to an extensive list of vascular associations. He has served as President of the American Venous Forum, the Vascular Society of New Jersey, and the American Venous Forum Foundation, He is also associated with the American College of Phlebology, the Society for Vascular Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, and American College of Surgeons – New Jersey Chapter.

After these rewarding professional milestones, Dr. Pappas is now delighted to serve on the team at the Center for Vein Restoration. “As an academic Vascular Surgeon, I have devoted my entire career to the care of patients suffering from Chronic Venous Disorders like varicose veins, venous ulceration, lower limb swelling and pain. I have performed basic science and clinical research on this disease entity and have become a nationally and internationally acclaimed Vascular Surgeon.” Dr. Pappas continues, “I have joined CVR to focus my attention solely on the care of patients with venous disorders as well as, continuing my efforts in clinical research.”

With 23 years of experience in the field of venous insufficiency, Dr. Pappas is still motivated everyday by improving the lives of patients with venous disease and training the next generation of Venous Disease Specialists.
