Center for Vein Restoration’s North Bethesda / Rockville vein clinic is one of our three locations in Montgomery County, Maryland, with the others being our Germantown clinic and our Silver Spring clinic. Considered a “bedroom community” (a residential suburb inhabited largely by people who commute to a nearby city for work), North Bethesda offers a wide range of attractions for visitors of all kinds, despite being less than nine square miles.

Just over three miles from our North Bethesda / Rockville vein clinic, visitors will find the Beall-Dawson House. Built circa 1815, the house became Montgomery History’s headquarters after the City of Rockville purchased the property in 1965. The brick, Federal-style home commands a view of Commerce Lane (now West Montgomery Avenue). The encompassing museum “tells the story of the upper-class white families and the enslaved African Americans who lived here, as well as typical life in 19th century Rockville.”

Soak up the more scientific side of Rockville’s fascinating history at the Stonestreet Museum of 19th Century Medicine. The famed property was built in 1852 by Samuel Thomas Stonestreet for his son, Edward Elisha Stonestreet, who had just completed medical school at the University of Maryland. Dr. Stonestreet would go on to practice medicine in Rockville until his passing in 1903.

The Stonestreet Museum contains an immense collection of medical books, tools, and other resources from the early 19th and 20th centuries. While the office was originally located in front of the Stonestreet family’s East Montgomery Avenue home, it was moved to the site of Richard Montgomery High School to avoid being torn down during an urban renewal project in the mid-1900s. The office was then moved to the site of the Beall-Dawson House and donated to the Montgomery County Historical Society in 1972.

Guests who make an appointment to tour the museum get the exclusive opportunity to learn about Civil War-era medical care, which often included Dr. Stonestreet himself traveling far and wide for house calls.

Afterward, get a refreshing dose of the great outdoors at Rock Creek Regional Park, a 1,800-acre property about eight miles from our North Bethesda / Rockville vein clinic. The park comprises Lake Needwood and Lake Frank and offers 13 miles of picturesque hiking trails.

Lake Needwood spans about 75 acres, offering kayak, canoe, rowboat, and pedal boat rentals, as well as pontoon tours that provide up-close experiences with turtles, birds, and other wildlife. Of course, the lake is also an angler’s dream — trout, largemouth bass, bluegill, and catfish are just a few common species to look out for.

At 55 acres, Lake Frank is a bit smaller but equally scenic, featuring a covered bridge, a raptor apiary, and a pioneer homestead.

Rock Creek Regional Park is also home to the Needwood Golf Course, an archery range, a nature center, and Go Ape — an interactive outdoor course described as a “treetop adventure” with five zip lines, rope ladders, and other obstacles. Talk about family fun!

End your visit with a trip to Cabin John Regional Park, less than three miles from our North Bethesda / Rockville vein center. In addition to its 8.8 miles of natural surface trails, the park offers all sorts of high-spirited amenities. From tennis and volleyball areas to ice skating rinks, miniature train rides, and horseshoe pits, the park truly has something for everyone at all times of the year.

Remember: because of its proximity to Washington, D.C., visitors to CVR’s North Bethesda / Rockville, Maryland, vein clinic can easily visit the Lincoln Memorial, the White House, and the National Mall during their trip.

Meet Dr. Byrne

Rory C. Byrne, MD, earned his medical degree with honors from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He completed his internship at Queen’s University Hospitals program in Kingston, Ontario, and a residency at McGill University Hospitals. He is certified by the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine.

Dr. Byrne first became interested in vein disease care during his work in neonatal medicine, becoming fascinated by the intricacy of tiny veins. Seeing how devastating the symptoms of venous insufficiency were for patients, he decided to dedicate his career to vein care.

“Venous disease is not easy to treat, but when treated well, the results can be remarkable and life-changing. Seeing this dramatic improvement in patients that had formerly come to me with little hope is what interests me most about vein disease and spurs me on professionally.” Rory C. Byrne

Services at Center for Vein Restoration, North Bethesda / Rockville

Our board-certified vascular surgeons offer a wide range of innovative treatment options for leg pain, swelling, cramping, itching, varicose veins, spider veins, restless leg syndrome, ulcers, and other symptoms of vascular disease.

Symptoms of vein problems

When the tiny valves in your leg veins fail to circulate blood back to the heart it can be a sign of venous disease.

The result can be:

These symptoms are often the result of venous insufficiency and are unlikely to heal on their own. This common vein condition is progressive and will likely worsen without treatment.

Vein treatment options

Vein care providers at vein treatment clinics use the most advanced minimally invasive treatments available today. CVR’s modern outpatient treatment plans are far superior to the older vein-stripping methods used in the past.

Treatments include VenaSeal, a proprietary medical adhesive that safely closes off varicose veins, and ClariVein, a two-in-one approach that uses an ablation device to inject a sclerosing agent that closes the vein with a tiny rotating wire tip, which destroys the diseased vein.

At Center for Vein Restoration, we offer a wide variety of other treatment options, including:

Vein treatments take approximately an hour or less to complete, and patients can return to their normal routine immediately with few restrictions. No staples or stitches are required because a simple band-aid covers the tiny incisions. Our outpatient vein treatments require only local anesthetics. Recovery and symptom relief are fast, and there is little to no scarring.
