A Physician-First Approach to Venous and Lymphatic Medicine
Center for Vein Restoration (CVR) is pleased to welcome Rashad Riazuddin, MD, a board-certified family medicine physician with advanced fellowship training in venous and lymphatic medicine, to our clinics in Sylvania, Ohio, and Oregon (Toledo), Ohio. Dr. Riazuddin brings a physician-first approach to vein care, shaped by years of experience in family and emergency medicine before he turned his focus exclusively to venous disease.
"I want the patients to feel that they are heard; that they understand their condition, and that we made the decision together."
— Dr. Rashad Riazuddin
For people across Northwest Ohio who have lived with heavy, aching, or swollen legs for years and assumed it was simply part of getting older, Dr. Riazuddin is ready to help.
Dr. Riazuddin's road to vein care wound through some of the busiest corners of medicine. After completing a family medicine residency with the Choctaw Nation in Talihina, Oklahoma, he spent several years as a primary care and emergency physician across Texas and Oklahoma, including as medical director of a busy family medicine practice. It was in that fast-paced work that vein disease first caught his attention, not as a specialty he set out to pursue, but as a pattern he could not ignore.
"Before specializing in vein care, I worked in family medicine and emergency medicine. I frequently met patients struggling with leg pain, swelling, heaviness, skin changes, and wounds that had been affecting their lives for years. That drew me to vein care because I was realizing that many of these patients had an underlying condition that could be properly diagnosed, and in many cases treated through minimally invasive procedures."
— Dr. Rashad Riazuddin
To pursue that interest fully, Dr. Riazuddin completed an advanced fellowship in venous and lymphatic medicine at Center for Vein Restoration in Grand Rapids, Michigan, training directly under physicians who had built their careers around the specialty.
"My relationship with CVR began through my advanced fellowship training. That experience allowed me to learn from physicians who had dedicated their careers to the specialty, and to see the value of an organization entirely focused on vein care. I chose to remain with CVR because of the depth of experience and the emphasis on clinical excellence."

Ask Dr. Riazuddin how he approaches a new patient, and the answer always starts the same way: by listening.
"My philosophy begins with listening. Every patient arrives with a different story, different concerns, and different goals, and I want to understand how their symptoms are affecting their life before discussing treatment. Patients also deserve an honest assessment; not every case of leg pain or swelling is caused by venous disease."
— Dr. Rashad Riazuddin
Many patients feel anxious before a first vein appointment, usually because they are not sure what to expect. Dr. Riazuddin sees easing that worry as part of the job.
"Much of the anxiety comes from not knowing what to expect. I start by slowing the visit down and letting patients explain what has been troubling them, and I make it clear that the first appointment is a chance to gather information, not a commitment to a procedure. My goal is for them to leave feeling relieved that they finally have a clear picture of what is happening, and how we can help."

Dr. Riazuddin is also known for translating a complex diagnosis into something patients can act on.
“I review the ultrasound findings with patients and relate them directly to the symptoms they are experiencing. A patient should not leave simply knowing the name of a diagnosis; they should understand what it means for them personally."
— Dr. Rashad Riazuddin
Dr. Riazuddin evaluates and treats a full range of venous conditions using minimally invasive outpatient procedures. Vein problems he treats include:
Dr. Riazuddin's background in family and emergency medicine also shapes how he works with the physicians who refer patients to him.
"I approach referred patients as a physician first and a vein specialist second. Because of my background in family and emergency medicine, I understand that leg pain, edema, skin changes, and wounds have several possible causes, and I perform a thoughtful evaluation before recommending treatment. I want referring clinicians to feel confident that their patients will be listened to, treated with respect, and returned to their care with a clear plan."

Outside of medicine, Dr. Riazuddin's family comes first. He and his wife have three young children, and he treasures road trips, discovering new places, and trying different foods together as a family, along with gardening, cooking, and archery in his free time.
"Medicine is a major part of who I am, but being a husband and a father keeps me grounded and reminds me of the importance of treating every patient as someone’s loved one."
— Dr. Rashad Riazuddin
For anyone who has been living with leg pain, swelling, or visible veins and assumed it was just a normal part of aging, Dr. Riazuddin has a direct message.
"Don’t dismiss your symptoms or assume that discomfort, swelling, or changes in your legs are simply an unavoidable part of getting older. Many patients adapt gradually, stopping certain activities without realizing how much their lives have changed. An evaluation does not mean you will necessarily need a procedure; it simply helps you understand what is causing the symptoms and what options may be available."
— Dr. Rashad Riazuddin
Dr. Riazuddin brings together a physician-first evaluation, focused fellowship training, and a calm, listening-first approach that puts patients at ease.

Welcome to the CVR family, Dr. Riazuddin!
Q: What vein conditions does Dr. Riazuddin treat, and do I need a referral?
A: Dr. Riazuddin treats chronic venous insufficiency, varicose and spider veins, leg swelling, venous ulcers, and other venous conditions. You do not need a referral to schedule a consultation.
Q: I've had leg symptoms for years and figured it was just aging. Is it worth getting checked?
A: Yes, and the sooner the better, since venous disease tends to progress gradually and often goes unrecognized as the cause. An evaluation can identify what is going on and outline your options, even if that does not mean you need a procedure.
Q: What should I expect at my first appointment with Dr. Riazuddin?
A: Your first visit is a consultation, not a commitment to treatment; Dr. Riazuddin will listen to your symptoms, review your history, and typically perform a diagnostic ultrasound to identify the cause of your discomfort. He will explain everything in plain language so you leave with a clear understanding of your condition and your options.
Q: Does insurance cover vein treatments with Dr. Riazuddin?
A: Most vein procedures are covered by insurance when symptoms of venous disease are present, such as pain, swelling, or visible varicose veins. Our office can help verify your specific coverage before your appointment.
