Center for Vein Restoration has five convenient locations in the state of Alabama for patients looking for relief from the pain and swelling of varicose veins. Dothan is located in the southeastern part of the state. Opelika, located near the border with Columbus, Georgia, serves east-central Alabama.

Meet the Doctors Who Serve Alabama

Dothan

David Fortenberry, MD, FACS, SVS, earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University Scholl of Medicine, New Orleans, LA. He completed his General Surgery residency at the University of Colorado Health Science Center, Denver, CO, and a fellowship in Vascular Surgery at Lahey Clinic Medical Center, Burlington, MA.

He is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the Society for Vascular Surgery. He earned membership in Alpha Omega Alpha (AΩA), a national medical honor society. AΩA is committed to national leadership in advancing diversity and inclusion in the profession of medicine. Based on merit, members demonstrate the characteristics of excellent physicians in alignment with AΩA’s mission and values.

As an experienced nurse practitioner, Anna Parkinson, APRN, MSN, FNP-C,is enthusiastic about improving the lives of her patients by offering safe, effective treatment for varicose veins and other symptoms of venous insufficiency (vein disease). Further, she enjoys working alongside other vein specialists who are equally passionate about caring for patients.

In addition to earning an MS in Nursing (family nurse practitioner), Anna has achieved Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C) certification, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB) certification, and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure.

Hoover

Mohamed T. Hassan, MD, DABVLM, RPVI, is board-certified in Internal Medicine. After graduating from Cairo University School of Medicine in Egypt, Dr. Hassan completed his residency at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, an academic affiliate of New York Medical College. Dr. Hassan completed a Venous and Lymphatic Medicine fellowship at a Center for Vein Restoration location in Maryland.

Trussville

Mohamed T. Hassan, MD, DABVLM, RPVI, is board-certified in Internal Medicine. After graduating from Cairo University School of Medicine in Egypt, Dr. Hassan completed his residency at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, an academic affiliate of New York Medical College. Dr. Hassan completed a Venous and Lymphatic Medicine fellowship at a Center for Vein Restoration location in Maryland.

Opelika

Michael L. Aikens, MD, came to Center for Vein Restoration in 2018 after 26 years as a practicing cardiologist. After receiving his medical degree from Boston University and completing an internship and residency at Boston University Medical Center, Dr. Aikens moved to Alabama in 1995 to serve as a cardiology fellow at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. There he earned the J. Claude Bennett Award for Excellence in Research. During his fellowship at the University of Alabama, Dr. Aikens investigated the role endothelial cells play in the development of chronic venous disease.

Montgomery
