Annapolis & Columbia Parkway

Sean Stewart, MS, MD, graduated from the University of Maryland Medical School and was trained at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore City. In 2003, he was awarded the Emergency Medicine Distinguished Service Award at the University of Maryland. During his residency training, Dr. Stewart was involved in developing an emergency ultrasound fellowship program for emergency medicine doctors. As a result, Dr. Stewart has over 12 years of experience with ultrasound-guided venous access.

Dr. Stewart has spent seven years as a managing partner in the emergency department at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring. He was also an associate professor with the Georgetown University Medical School and has privileges at Greater Baltimore Medical Center. A Maryland native, Dr. Stewart has provided outstanding patient care with Center for Vein Restoration since 2010. He is the Regional Medical Director for Maryland and the Director of the Chemical Ablation and Sclerotherapy program for Center for Vein Restoration.

North Bethesda/Rockville & Silver Springs

Eddie Fernandez, RPVI, graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine in Medford, Massachusetts, and pursued his emergency medicine residency at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. After completing his residency in 2006, Dr. Fernandez moved to Maryland and served as a physician in the Emergency Medicine Department at Holy Cross Hospital. He is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine for Georgetown University School of Medicine. In 2009, he did a subspecialty fellowship in phlebology, joining Center for Vein Restoration.

Bel Air & Glen Burnie

Alfred Jump, MD, completed his medical training at the University of Maryland at College Park, MCP Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, and The George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C, with post-graduate training at the University of Maryland Emergency Medicine Residency Program in Baltimore. Dr. Jump previously practiced at Holy Cross Hospital in Germantown. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine.

Greenbelt

Vinay Satwah, MD, DO, RPVI, completed an accelerated medical degree at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2003. He performed his Internal Medicine residency in the St. Barnabas healthcare system in Northern New Jersey. He then went on to do a Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship, Interventional Cardiology Fellowship, and Endovascular Medicine Fellowship at Deborah Heart and Lung Center in Southern New Jersey.

Dr. Satwah is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Medicine, Nuclear Cardiology, Echocardiography, and Interventional Cardiology. He is a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI). Dr. Satwah is also a sought-after speaker and presenter for international and national vascular conferences.

Frederick & Hagerstown

Duc Le, MD, earned his medical degree from the University of Louisville, Kentucky. After his graduation, he served his residency in Emergency Medicine at the York-Pennsylvania State-Hershey Emergency Medicine Program in York, Pennsylvania. Following his residency, Dr. Le worked as an attending emergency physician at Potomac Hospital in Woodbridge, Virginia, for two years, then at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville for eight years. He was a managing partner for seven years with Emergency Physician Associates and Chairman of the Community-Acquired Pneumonia Committee at Frederick Memorial Hospital until he joined Center for Vein Restoration in 2014.

He completed extensive specialized training in treating varicose veins and venous insufficiency. In 1993, as a medical student, Dr. Le was granted a medical rotation in Saigon, Vietnam, and became the first medical student from the U.S. to do so following the end of the Vietnam War. Since then, he has participated in multiple medical missions to Southeast Asia through the local charities of Vietnam Assistance for the Handicapped and Hope for Tomorrow. He has previously volunteered to treat patients at the Mission of Mercy free clinic in Germantown. Dr. Le has been a diplomat of the American Board of Emergency Physicians since 1998.

Lutherville (Towson) & Rosedale

Peter Liao, MD, Ph.D., obtained his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College as part of the Penn State/Jefferson combined six-year BS-MD program. While at Jefferson, Dr. Liao also completed a Ph.D. in Pharmacology. In 1994, Dr. Liao started his Residency in General Surgery at the University of Maryland. He continued at the University of Maryland with a Fellowship in Surgical Endoscopy and Advanced Laparoscopy.

In 2001 he returned as a faculty member at the University of Maryland, teaching residents General Surgery, Flexible Endoscopy, and Advanced Laparoscopy. Starting in 2014, he practiced with Maryland Vein Professionals and joined Center for Vein Restoration in 2020 when the two companies partnered. Dr. Liao is a board-certified general surgeon with expertise in minimally invasive procedures.

Prince Frederick & Waldorf

Frank Sbrocco, MD, earned his medical degree from Georgetown University and completed OB/GYN residency training at Washington Hospital Center. He cared for OB/GYN patients for 15 years in private practice at Calvert Memorial Hospital. A practicing physician in Southern Maryland since 1995, Dr. Sbrocco joined the team at Center for Vein Restoration in 2009, where he has dedicated his career to bringing relief to patients coping with venous disease.

Germantown

Anuj Shah, MD, FACEP, graduated from Northeast Ohio Medical University. Upon graduation, he completed his residency training at Summa Health Systems and Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron, Ohio. During his residency training, Dr. Shah first began using ultrasound in the care of his patients. He has nearly two decades of experience using ultrasound-guided venous access, the foundation used today in the procedures offered in vein clinics.

Dr. Shah continues as a managing partner in the emergency department at Holy Cross Hospitals in Silver Spring and Germantown. He also is an assistant clinical professor at Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Shah joined Center for Vein Restoration in 2012.

Washington, DC

Lawrence Starin, MD, FACS, completed his medical training at the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University. Dr. Starin then spent five years as a resident in general surgery at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center of New York City, followed by one year as a Fellow in the department of surgery at the University of Pennsylvania.

In 1989, Dr. Starin moved to Maryland and joined a general surgery group practice with offices in both Prince George’s and Montgomery counties. Since 1994, he has practiced general surgery as a solo provider with privileges at Holy Cross and Shady Grove Adventist hospitals. He is currently the Chief of General Surgery at Holy Cross Hospital. Board certified by the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Starin joined Center for Vein Restoration in 2013.

Rory C. Byrne, MD, graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. In 1978, he left Ireland and relocated to Canada, where he completed an internship at the Queen’s University Hospital program in Kingston, Ontario. Dr. Byrne then entered a residency program at the McGill University Hospitals. He moved to Montreal in 1994. As he advanced in his career, Dr. Byrne realized there was an unmet demand to treat patients with venous insufficiency and began to concentrate his practice exclusively on vein care. He is a member of the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine.

North Bethesda/Rockville, Silver Spring, & Easton

Thomas Militano, MD, Ph.D., RPVI, graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He received his cardiothoracic surgical training at Tufts New England Medical Center and has 30 years of experience in all aspects of adult cardiac surgery. He earned a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering and served for two years at the National Heart and Lung Institute in the Artificial Heart Program in the 1970s. Dr. Militano has practiced in Washington, D.C., for 25 years, performing 4,500 open heart operations and 2,500 minimally invasive venous ablations.

A Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI), Dr. Militano is a frequent lecturer on the physiology and treatment of venous insufficiency. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Cardiology, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and the American College of Chest Physicians.

Dr. Militano has been included in Who’s Who in America and named several times as one of America’s Top Physicians and America’s Top Surgeons (Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery) by the Consumers Research Council of America. He serves as Chairman of the Division of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at Washington Adventist Hospital. Dr. Militano has worked with Center for Vein Restoration for seven years and considers helping his patients address venous disorders with less invasive procedures his most outstanding achievement.

Easton

Priya Thirumlai, MD, FACS, earned her medical degree at Sri Devraj Urs Medical College in India. She completed her General Surgery residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and an OBGYN residency at the University of Maryland. She is board certified by the American College of Obstetrics. She is affiliated with the Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross, Georgia, and is a member of the American Vein & Lymphatic Society.

She has been awarded a Compassionate Doctor recognition, a Resident Teaching award from the University of Maryland, and a Top Doctors designation in 2021 by Arlington Magazine.

Dr. Thirumlai speaks English, Tamil, and Kannada.
