More About Dr. Chowla

Dr. Chowla is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Certified by American Board of Phlebology (American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine), as well as a member of the American Vein and Lymphatic Society. He has several publications to his credit, authored various articles and presented at local, regional and national conferences.

He founded the Nova Vein Clinic, a premier Northern Virginia Vein center, which merged with Center for Vein Restoration in 2012. He is the Regional Medical Director of Northern Virginia and currently practices and sees patients in the Fairfax and Fair Oaks clinics. In the last 18 years Dr. Chowla has successfully performed thousands of operations, focusing on issues related to blood vessels, especially veins. His practice includes treatment for both varicose veins and spider veins, including laser, radiofrequency & sclerotherapy, providing patients with solutions to both medically indicated and cosmetic issues.

“During my Fellowship training in vascular surgery we were exposed to all aspects of management of venous disorders including evaluation, diagnosis and various treatment modalities including surgery, sclerotherapy and microphlebectomy,” says Dr. Chowla. “As I started my private practice, a newer modality was introduced and I underwent further training at the Arizona Heart Institute with the pioneers in the venous ablation procedure. as i adopted the new venous ablation procedure in my private practice in 2005, i saw the benefits of this quicker less invasive procedure leading to excellent outcomes with minimal downtime. Therefore my focus shifted towards treatment of patients with lower extremity venous disorders using laser ablation, radiofrequency ablation, microphlebectomy and sclerotherapy.”

The fact that venous disease is poorly understood but is a developing field that can provide great relief to many patients using minimally-invasive procedures is what interests me about venous disease.

Dr. Chowla describes his personal work in the field of venous insufficiency and areas where he has a particular focus:

“I specialize in treatment of symptomatic chronic venous insufficiency, leg venous ulcers, lymphedema, and spider and varicose veins.”
